Tell me something...

Which is more surprising... The fact that somebody out there purchased this domain for the sole purpose of telling the Internet exactly the best way to bake a potato, or the fact that a reasonably competent 34-year-old woman who has lived alone for the better part of a decade actually Googled the phrase "how to bake a potato" in the first place?

Tough call, isn't it?

-------------------------------------------
Note: In the 34-year-old's defense, I would like to mention that she DOES KNOW how to bake a potato. In the microwave. Because when your dinner is something as simple as a baked potato, do you really want to wait an hour for it? No. No, you do not. Or, she does not. Whatever.

HAhaha. Awesome. It is indeed tough, dear.

I have never "baked" a potato in the over. That's a really long time to wait for a plain potato.

Cheesy potatoes? Maybe. Baked? Microwave.

Clearly the microwave is the way to go here.

I would Google that too. Because Googling is the way to answer every question. So, the more surprising thing is that the domain exists. But really, they both have the same root cause.

How surprising is it that I've been to that site before? I don't remember how I got there, but I do remember the "cleaned, poked, oiled" potatoes.

Seriously people have time to set up a separate website for this? I feel like I am wasting my life away since I am not accomplishing anything nearly this productive. I tend to start potatoes in the microwave to cook them through faster, and then I pop them in the convection toaster oven to crisp. I am sure I use just as much energy as having the big oven run for an hour, but I get my potato dinner done in about 15 minutes.

I love the taste of a potato wrapped in foil and baked in the oven--the skin gets nice and crispy--but I don't have that kind of time to devote to dinner prep, generally. I'm a microwave and toaster oven kind of gal.

I'm betting there is no task so menial, no question so obviously answered, that there is not currently a website devoted to it. Vive la internet!

Given that I have a recipe for hard boiled eggs (that I have to get out and use EVERY TIME), I will leap to your defense here. Some people just need a little extra help. Does not mean we are incompetent in the kitchen (the hard boiled eggs always turn out fine).

I use a recipe for hard boiled eggs, too!

AAAAHHHahahahahahaha. that is a fantastic question. i love both that you googled it AND that the internet came to the rescue.

Well, it is well illustrated. I will give it that.

Ha! I love it. I google absolutely everything though, so I won't judge.

i'm with you on this one. "my name is stefanie, i'm 31 and i microwave potatoes." because honestly? if it's a side dish, i'd STILL have to put it in the oven to bake half an hour before i start cooking everything else. and that's just silly.

(but i found the perfect recipe for making truly baked potatoes in case i ever get the hankerin'.) :)

I'm still looking for the perfect Google of "how to roast garlic" because whenever I do it comes out too bitter and overdone. hmph.

I think you're wonderful and awesome for googling that.

Heather--It's just one of the many pointless questions I pose to myself every day.

3Cs and NPW--I know, right? Glad I'm not alone on this.

Jess--Did you see the list of links at the bottom of that page? There's a site just for how to cook corn on the cob, too. Oddly, I think I once Googled my way to that site as well.

Flurrious--How is it that you just made potatoes sound dirty?

Badger Reader--Ah, a convection toaster oven. I don't have one of those. This is a good time to refer back to my previous post about needing a spinster gift registry.

Liz--The fact that I couldn't remember whether I was supposed to wrap it in foil (and also what temp to cook at) was the reason I Googled in the first place. I'm with you, though. It's rare I'd plan ahead that far for a baked potato. On an average week night, I wouldn't wait more than ten minutes for one.

Shelly--I would totally need to Google that as well. How many minutes do you boil them? Two? Ten? Twenty? I'd honestly have no idea.

3Cs--See? Again, not the only one. Whew.

Alice--The Internet DOES know everything, after all.

Courtney--And it includes the phrase "cleaned, poked, oiled." I'm not sure what that has to do with anything; I guess I just wanted to say that again. ;-)

Hillary--I once Googled how to dice a tomato and blogged about that as well. I have no shame.

Stef--I think that recipe is actually exactly the same as the one I found! Hmm... who's stealing from whom? (Wait. It's a baked potato. How many ways are there to do it, right?) :-)

Poppy--I have never even attempted to roast garlic, so you're way ahead of me there.

Thank goodness I'm not the only one who has to look up how to boil eggs every single time. I feel much better now.

And also, I would have to look up what temp to bake a potato. I know how to do everything except I never can remember what temp.
