By the way...

I haven't forgotten about all your questions about my (sometimes) mad-dating self. I fully intended to get to those this past weekend, but obviously I had other things to do. Things like planning trips, and eating sushi, and looking at local art, and counting lip glosses, and drinking heavily, and staying up way too late with boys of questionable morals, and moving furniture and heavy boxes for a friend. And now I am off to see a nearly four-hour movie that I've been told is wholly overrated and irritating, despite its well-established status as a classic.

Anyway, I'll get to it. Promise. It just might not be until after I return from Austin. Meanwhile, if you want to add any more questions to the list, please, feel free.

Yes, but you need to see GWTW just because it's parodied in so many other movies. Although, if you've spent the summer reading the book, skip the movie. The book's so much better.

Oh, I hated Gone With the Wind. HATE HATE HATE.

I enjoyed it. If not only for the great material you can get from it and then repeat in horrible accents over martinis. It's totally worth it just for that.

OK, I had to see it for exactly the reasons Noelle said. It's a classic. It's referenced everywhere. And I had the chance to see it on the big screen at an awesome old theater near my house. And you know what? It was ridiculous and melodramatic and insanely long, but I have to say... I didn't hate it. I actually sort of loved it, absurd over-the-top drama and all. :-) Who knew?

I love GWTW actually. And to think how cutting edge it was for 1939. It's a whole different experience in the movie theater, when you see it the was meant to be seen.

But, tell us about drinking heavily and hanging out with boys of questionable morals? That sounds even better than GWTW :P

Gone with the wind was OK. We've watched it in bits and pieces. I wouldn't go out of my way to watch it...I think it's one of those things you like because it's a classic and you SHOULD like it.

I just saw GWTW again a couple of months ago. I didn't love it as much as I did when I was 12, but I did enjoy the way Ashley Wilkes's accent kept changing.

Have fun in Austin!

Hmm. I've never seen it either, but from the comments I don't know if I want to see it just because of all the hype, or if I should run in the opposite direction.

Anniina--Drinks: there were several of them. Boys: there was just one of them. He is not a proper boyfriend candidate, but he was fun for a few hours, anyway.

3Cs--I don't think it's one you can watch in bits in pieces. I think you need to decide in advance to invest the time and watch it all the way through. I actually really liked it, despite all the ridiculous melodrama and the fact that Scarlett was absolutely horrible. I think you just have to go into it with the right mindset. Seeing it on a big screen also helped.

BK--Nonsense; I'm sure you can find SOMETHING fun to do in Ohio! :-)

TOG--Ha. It did; you're right. Very few people in that movie seemed to have the right accents, actually. Even in London--no British accents. Hmm.

NPW--I think you should see it. Just go into it with the right mindset. (See above.)
