Reason #47 that it's best I live alone

Because there was no one around to hear me (and thereafter to mock me mercilessly) when I let out a sudden string of high-pitched squeals (while simultaneously and dramatically hopping around quickly out of the way) after stepping on what I thought was a tremendous bug scurrying around my laundry room floor but which actually turned out to be a black rubber washer I'd accidentally sent spinning with my foot.

I think I ought to steal Abbersnail's "Why I rock" label for this one. Sometimes "Nerdery" just doesn't suffice.

Ha! I think I might have done the exact same thing at least a dozen times.

Well done.

I don't think this qualifies as nerdery at all. There was no way for you to *know* what was slithering around your foot.

But it sure paints a funny picture :)

Once, when I was having a sleepover with some friends as kids, we repeatedly tried to kill a bug that kept bouncing back. Finally, it disappeared. The next morning, we realized it was a piece of fuzz.

I have a black smudge on my wall next to my TV that looks like a bug, and has startled me nightly since I moved into my cottage.

Maybe you should reenact it for us in photos, the way H did the blanket stabbing.

I seem to be missing the gene that causes panic at the sight of creepy crawlies. They just don't bother me all that much. Though I do hate when you accidentally walk through a spider's web when you're outside in your yard at night. That is NOT a pleasant feeling!

I think that is only a little bit nerdy. We have all done it. But it is still funny.

I would unabashedly scream at such an imagined sight in front of roommates, loved ones or total strangers! Not nerdy at all!

We've all done that, not so strange. :)

Haha, that definitely sounds like something I would do! It's best to sound the alarm early, right?

That is why my wife doesn't live alone. She is scared to death of black rubber washers.

I don't know if it's nerdery as much as it's slapsticker-y.

I once thought a spider was crawling on my neck, and began furiously swatting it...only to realize THAT IT WAS MY OWN PONYTAIL. Smooth! Your story, though, complete with the squeal, reminded me of this:

Noelle--I have a spot like that near my desk at work. I'm glad I'm not the only one who's not a quick study on this sort of thing.

Liz--That happens in my garage all the time. Gah.

King--Oh, I don't blame her. Rubber washers can be quite menacing.

WM--Maybe it's all those episodes of "What I Like about You" I've been watching. By various accounts, Amanda Bynes IS the new Lucy, after all... ;-)

Metalia--I have totally done that. Smooth indeed.

Everyone who said this isn't nerdy--I know. But of my existing post tags, that's the one that said "I'm a dork" most successfully. So "Nerdery" it was.

Don't be a muggle-hater, Noelle.

(Everyone else, just ignore her. This is still a Potter-free zone, as far as I'm concerned.) ;-)
